Do Walk-in Coops Need to be Insulated?

Sounds like you have a good starting point with a wooden 6x8. Your breeds should be fine in winter.

Insulating is really not necessary but a personal choice. I am in NJ and do not in-sulate. Just make sure the coop is as draft free as you can. Small seams are OK. The important thing is keeping drinking water from freezing.
 
I have a converted amish shed and I live in the northeast also, Lots of snow and bitter cold and mine isn't insulated, they do just fine and they are bantams, silkies, frizzles.....every once in a blue moon I'd put the heat lamp on but that is only the wicked cold nights
