do we have to trap?

Yup.

They will be waiting for ANY slip up. Any time you forget to lock the door early enough. Any time a bird escapes or gets left out. Any time a bird sleeps too close to the fence. I swear they are psychic about these things. You can lock the biddies in secure 364 days of the year, and the ONE time something goes wrong the raccoons(or something) will be right there to rip your heart out.

I try to tilt odds in my favor.

That is a big ten four!

I feel like they just waiting for me to get home late or loose track of time and be late closing the door to the coop. About 15 minutes before dusk I get nervous and have to out and herd the chickens back in. somewhat easy now as there are only 3 left. My husband thinks I'm paranoid, but I think a touch is good for you.
i have not noticed any raccoons lately, but I know they are out there.
Has anyone used those blinking red lights to deter night animals?
