As for arguing with people's religious beliefs, you might as well argue with a stop sign....

I say no, that we dont need all the protections we have now. I also would not trust the UN to do anything other than acquire power

Also, in both Northern Ireland and in Israel/Palestine people are fighting for control of territory. The religion just gives an additional layer to the whole complex issue.

The problem in Ireland is different. Some centuries ago, an English king who controlled Scotland got rid of some troublesome Protestant Scots by dumping them in what became know as Ulster. The country was partitioned nearly 100 years ago for reasons of political expediency, a decision as inept as the partitioning of the Indian sub-continent:

The Troubles in Ireland were based on politics as well as religion. There is no justification for part of that country remaining within the UK rather than rejoining what is now the Republic of Ireland, unless you accept the views of many of the Protestant majority in the North. Despite recent disturbances in Belfast, we all hope that the paramilitary violence is ended at last and look forward to the reunification of Ireland.

Also, on the whole UN treaty thing. I haven't heard one logical reason for not ratifying the treaty. What I did hear was a bunch of people muttering about the UN, as if this treaty would somehow put the US under UN jurisdiction on people with disabilities. It should have passed.

I think we would find that the UN treaty makes no difference to the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and other developed countries. It's aim is to protect the civil rights of people in less developed countries where the disabled get no special consideration at present.

Capitalism provides a legitimate good or service in exchange for money, whereas the U.N. provides stolen money in exchange for various things, so it'd be more accurate to compare the U.N. to the mafia. Actually, the same goes for any corruption in government.

Though, granted, one could argue that the comparison is unfair to the mafia, since they don't have the force of law.

Here's a list of UN Member States. They are the UN and control its powers and activities. Are you saying that all of those states are prostitutes? Are you saying that all who work for money are prostitues? What is your judgement of prostitutes?
