Do Welsummers have fluffy cheeks?

What a sweet looking easter egger!

I wouldn't worry too much yet.
My EE went through a awkward phase too. I swear I could see pointy saddle feathers & definitely had curvy tail feathers. We called it her queer feathers & resigned ourselves to the fact that "she" was a "he".... Until "he" laid an enormous blue egg.

She's still our biggest layer & a total sweetheart. She does have a "husky" voice tho.

Can you get a close up of her comb? Males are supposed to have 3 rows of bumps while Females have 1.

Positive it's an EE & my first guess was pullet however when I looked closer at the second picture, think I see the start of saddle feathering. Two & half month is a bit "young" yet, could we get another set of pictures in another 2 - 3 wks?

I'll be more than glad to get another photo in a few weeks. I certainly hope the outcome is a pullet (not allowed to have roosters!)

I feel your pain! We had 2 supposed pullets (from TSC) also turn out to be cockerels. :hitSadly they were not well behaved young gentlemen & wound up at freezer camp.

OH NO! I've never eaten one of mine (though I threaten to when my hens stop laying during the winter!). To be honest, it isn't as if I'm "against" it....I just don't know of anyone that would do it (butcher, clean and package). I'd eat it! Just not kill it......

I just gave one of my hens "the warning" today! :lau Those 2 roos were actually the only ones we have harvested. I couldn't do it myself either. We are fortunate that a friend of ours shared a contact for a processor who will kill, clean & pluck the bird for $2 each. Well worth it for me!
