Do wild geese recognize people?

Theres this goose and gander pair of Canada geese I’ve known since the goose was on her nest last spring and her mate (the gander) stood guard of the nest, and I would always feed them and see them everyday until th it goslings grew up and they left to go to another lake. Now almost a year later, they’re back at their nesting spots and the gander seems like he really remembers me. He got all excited and even ate out of my hand. Do they really remember people like that? Even if it’s been awhile since they seen that person?

I understand they have excellent memory. I can’t imagine they would even get close if there wasn’t something there. Being wild.

I believe they can. Birds are very, very intelligent. And dogs can remember people even years later so I see no reason why a goose couldn’t.

Yes, the geese I've fed remember me after months and eat out of my hand too! They could recognize me with or without a hat.

Canada Geese are awesome! And in my opinion, one of the prettiest birds!!

That’s so awesome! This pair I met when they were nesting last spring and have fed them amd their goslings throughout the spring, I haven’t seen them since and last week I seen them with a whole bunch of geese relaxing and grazing by this creek near where they nested and the gander did act like he remembered me and ate out of my hand! It’s amazing how those geese really do recognize people. Even when I pull up in my car they get excited and start walking up and talking to each other. I love Canada geese too! A lot of them are so friendly and they are very pretty birds I agree!

My ducks freaked out when I went out to feed them one time in the rain. I couldn't figure out why until I realized I had my hood up. They calmed down once I took it off.
