Do You Believe in Ghosts?

OccamsTazer....shadow people...eep. One night after I had been dropped off from babysitting I saw a human shaped shadow in the front yard.(That house has a big yard.) It was just standing there. I couldnt see any features. It scared the life out of me.
I saw it when I was almost to the house and RAN.
From there on, whenever someone brought me home, I insisted on them bringing me to the upper driveway and only a few feet from the front door, lol.

I dont mind sharing these experiences, I dont care who knows. I have been considered strange my whole life so learned to live with that.

Also, do you sometimes wonder if ghosts/spirits can communicate with children better? I am not sure but I know my little nephew is 7. Each time someone in the family has died he says they "talk" to him. And he knows things a 7 year old normally wouldnt.
He doesnt like to talk about it though.
Recently, a family friend died and his siblings started wondering if she would "talk" to him. His reply was "She already has"....

You know, my parents never believed and they didnt until my sister was killed in a horrible accident. Where they had ignored things happening in the house before, what came after she passed on they couldnt pass off as anything else.
I had a conversation with my mother recently and told her I wished I had been able to push things away like she and dad did.
I guess its just not the way I am wired.
I hope other people come up with more of their experiences, I am glad gonzo started this thread.

MagsC, that sounds just like a shadow man!
The common thread in all the accounts I've read (and I've read about this more than I care to admit) is that it's a large/tallish man shape, no features, usually still, and scares the heck out of you, or gives a negative feeling.

Personally, I'd pee my pants if I saw something like that whether it was a negative spirit or the friendliest critter ever. So that probably debunks the "bad feeling" aspect. The part that terrified me was that many of the accounts said something about how the person had never heard of shadow men until they saw one and started doing research. So it's not like someone heard a story and then started seeing things.
I'm so glad we're having this conversation in the middle of the afternoon and not late at night.

But then, I'm the sort of person who nearly died when I was walking from the car to the front door late one night, and my big black dog came charging out of the woods to greet me. I didn't know he was out of the fence, I thought I was about to be eaten by Sasquatch.
I did not go pick up the flung groceries until the next day

Yep, I had never heard of shadow people when I saw whatever it was.

LOL, and you are right, I think anyone would feel negative about seeing THAT!!!!

i believe. my story goes:

about i year after moving into my 100 plus year old house, i felt a presence in my basement when i was alone. it just felt like someone was watching me. no big deal. as the months went by it felt like it was getting closer to me, just watching me. few more months go by and it started to follow me up the first set of stairs to the landing which leads out the house. it has never gone beyond that landing. i never felt threatened about it. and i got the feeling that it's an older man, probably someone who passed away in the basement. as the months went by, this "thing" started to make me feel a little uncomfortable. so if i was in the basement doing laundry, i would go as fast as i could to get back upstairs. about 1 year ago, "it" got worse. as i would go up the first set of steps, i got that feeling that "something was trying to grab my ancles as i was going up the stairs and it scares the crap out of me. it still does it today. so now i DO NOT go into the basement unless my husband is home. i don't care if laundry needs to be done. it will wait till he gets home.

second story

last fall, my husband turned our duplex back into a single family home. stairs were already there, just had to knock out the closet walls. we have 3 girls upstairs and my youngest is 4, long blond hair with bangs. one night i got up around 2 am and passed the stairway and noticed something from the corner of my eye. so i stopped and looked and it was a little girl, looked just like my 4 year old peeking around the corner. i said her name and she said nothing back. just kept looking at me. i couldn't see her face though. said her name again and nothing. so i looked away to turn the stair light on, looked back and she was gone. so i went upstairs to check on my daughter and she was sound asleep. i KNOW FOR SURE it was not her because when she goes up and down the stairs, it sounds like a heard of elephants. she stomps her feet going up and down the stairs. after that night, i never saw her again. but i still have "it" in the basement. so i'm going to the courthouse to find out the history on my house. i can't wait to see what i find.

I also get that feeling when I go into the basement. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. But I think it's just me scaring myself.

Although one time I was downstairs getting something from the kitchen and I heard a shuffle sound on the hardwood floor...sounded like someone had taken a couple steps. It was so plain and clear that I believed it was my brother coming down for something before bed. Looked around and nothing was there.
