I guess my point is, to clarify, while the resulting splashes may not be "showable," because for whatever reason splashes aren't a recognized color in the Ameraucana breed, surely it should be OK to breed them to blue or black, just like one does with Silkies & Cochins & other breeds...
Edited to add:
I was just perusing the Ameraucana board at the official Ameraucana site. Unfortunately, I'm not registered so I couldn't post a question re: this very interesting discussion. Once I do get registered, I'll ask the same specific question I did here - "If I breed a purebred splash Ameraucana with a purebred blue Ameraucana, will the resulting chick be purebred & (potentially) showable if it is a blue or black?" Meanwhile, I saw this interesting explanation from one of the Ameraucana gurus, which does seem to answer it:
Note the birds don't have to be of a recognized Ameraucana variety to be still considered Ameraucana. Lavender, splash and some other varieties that aren't yet recognized still meet "a variety description or breed true at least 50% of the time", so they are not Easter Eggers by definition.
With that in mind, it seems that my splash guy is still considered an Ameraucana & not an EE, and that his offspring will also be considered to be Ameraucanas.
