Its all cultural. In the Far East, cats & dogs are considered tasty. Horses are processed into "pet" food even here. And Iʻve eaten rabbit, both wild, farm raised and store bought. Tastes like chicken.

I have no problem with folks that don't eat chicken or are registered "Vegans". I do however have a problem with people that try to force their way of life on me. I think all creatures should be treated with care, fed, watered and housed properly and clean, BUT some of those creatures are FOOD for us humans. Chicken is pretty close to first on the long list. For the vegans I say, stick with your beans and be happy. I'm just fine with my meat and potatoe diet.

I love chicken. I roast one about twice a week.

Yeah I get that. I was talking about how I see things not everyone else. I don't think it's any worse to eat a horse than it is to eat a cow, I just don't agree with either one. I'm not trying to change anyone, I mean nature is full of animals eating other animals, sometimes in rather horrible ways. But I don't need to do it, so I don't, and it's really not a hardship.

well i dont eat my layer "pet" birds......but this spring..i plan to try to raise some meat birds...

Like I tell my kids, "Don't worry, we won't eat them while they're cute & little". And I can't name any bird I plan on processing, not even something literal like "Meatball" without them getting attatched & sad when it's time for them to go fulfill their destiny. But sometimes I'll secretly name them after previous miserable employers or ex-boyfriends just for my own amusement.

You can be sad to have to butcher such handsome birds, or be glad that your meat comes wrapped in such an attractive package.

I'm a vegetarian who eats eggs and dairy (lacto-ovo). I'd never push my feelings about eating meat on anyone. I have a lot of meat eating friends and some are big time hunters for food, not sport. I just hope anyone who eats meat knows where it comes from if it's not from their own backyard and realize that compassion and humane treatment should be involved in what goes into raising and processing food for the table. Everyone should be aware of the conditions of how meat, dairy and egg laying animals are raised and if any hormones, antibiotics or unatural feed is used 'cause that is what is going into your own body. I appreciate everyones efforts who raise their own food for their own table whether it comes from their garden, field or coop. I love the eggs my girls give me, but they are firstly pets and I'd never eat any of them no matter what.
