Do you ever get over losing a "favorite" bird?

I still miss my RIR bantam roo and he's been gone for 22 years.

He was like a best friend, went everywhere with me and followd me around like a little dog.

I actually miss all my birds from the past.

No, you never get over the loss and heartache - but if we never had such wonderful chickens our lives would not be so fulfilled. Yes, we do eventually come to terms with our loss but some of our chickens will always have a special place in our hearts.

Rest in peace: Petit Shoe ( my first Silkie chick) - died at the age of 5 months, Mary, Amber and all of my babies who have given me such pleasure to have been blessed with them - mine forever.
