Do you feed PUMPKINS to your chickens?

Ok, so call me silly, but I read about pumpkins a while back, decided to try it, ran to Wal-Mart, came home with a small punkin, and tossed it in.............................. (whole)

It sat for 4 days before I realized why they didn't like it...............................

D'oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love your avatar, BTW!

My younger girls are crazy about the left over pumpkins (and squash) we grew. I finally threw the pumpkin out of the older girls coup (barely picked at). I even save the unripe ones for the younger ones.

What's even funnier is how they love the leftovers of the cooked pumpkin and squash (the inner pulp and outer shells). They have chunks of orange all over their faces. But I keep telling myself there is no way I'm going to start cooking some just for the chickens. But then again... I suppose next week I'll be cooking that for them too, like the scrabbled eggs, like the spaghetti.

I had winter squash coming out of my ears last year so I cooked one for the chickens. Waste of time as they never ate it.

Mine eat pumpkins. They eat the guts first and then they pick away at the shell. Expanded my garden and grew a patch of pie pumpkins just for them (also threw in extra tomatoes in my garden so they would get their share, wellll ... and corn and cukes and squash

I'm not sure who likes pumpkin more, my chickens or my dogs. The dogs sit on the outside of the chicken pen and whine when I give the chicks pumpkin and not them. The other morning I fed the chick some pumpkin & then let the dogs out, they stole a little pumpkin off the front walk and carried it out in to the yard and took turns eating it, the chickens finished what the dogs didn't.

I'm new to all this too, but my chickens LOVE tomatoes. It's been great to give them the bird pecked and rabbit chewed ones. My local farmers market sells winter squash, onions and potatoes for $10 for a potato bag full. I've packed it full of goodies, including a couple of pie pumpkins. The really aren't enough for me for pies, so I think they're going to the chick chicks!

My chickens, goats, sheep, and dogs love the pumpkins!! I toss them in the field and they eat everybit of the pumpkins. They eat everything out of the garden but eggplant. This is the first year we grew egg plant no one will eat them at our house.
