Do you feel guilty eating your fertilized eggs?

Quote:
No..Ive hatched them all out before-from every hen I have-just to see what theyd look like. I only hatch the ones that are cool looking :-)

No, of course not. Just because they are fertile doesn't mean that they are chicks. They have to be incubated to become chicks and they aren't. Hens don't set on every single egg that they lay, so why should I feel guilty about eating them? Just because we have the technology to hatch every single egg in a bator doesn't mean its natural, or every egg was meant to become a chick. I certainly wouldn't want every egg I produce to become a baby! YIKES!

I feel guilty and a little grossed out... if I think about it. SO many things are gross if you think about them, pesticides, fertilizer on foods, the hands that touch food in the grocery store, in the fields, the poop on the shells of eggs, the poop we invariabley track into our houses, onto our carpets, onto our blankets, into our mouths etc... so I don't think about it, and I never suffer any ill effects. As far as 'shoulda hatched 'em'? nah, got enought mouths to feed!

no..not at all..theres nothing in the egg until you start to incubate it...

Nope, if I want to know what the chick would look like, I just look at my hens and roo. The chick would have looked just like them.

i must say i never have wondered what the chicks would look like...i prolly will now though!

Not ever seems like a silly thing to get in the way of a good breakfast. I hatch eggs that I want to hatch and eat or sell or give the rest away. I dont think of them as chicks unless I get them in the incubator. That is when the whole thing starts and not until then, unless they are under a broody of course.

I don't think about it except during a hatch. yesturday we had a hatch going and my husband and son wanted eggs for breakfast. an we are sitting there eating eggs and pancakes and across the room in the incubator their sibblings are hatching and churping away thats the only time i feel weird about it. and it didn't help everytime my husband took a bite he would go churp churp haha

Some of you are misunderstanding my post. I'm not talking about eating fertilized eggs grossing me out.......Matter of fact I made egg salad today for lunch. I'm talking about what the future incubated baby would look like! I NEED A BIGGER COOP!

I have five young hens who are laying fertilized eggs and I have 5 hens that are old biddies and wont get nicey nicey with the rooster so every egg I crack open that has a bullseye I go"oh, that could have been a baby."

Tomorrow the new coop is up the old hens are going in there and I won't have to worry about it anymore and ALL THE BABY MAKING EGGS ARE GOING IN THE BATOR MU A HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!

So yes I feel guilty with every egg I crack open and I only imagine it getting worse the more chickens I get. *sigh* I feel your pain.
