do you find yourself missing your chicks when you are away?

What a sweet thread. I sit with my chicks every evening after the kids get to bed, and they are always running around here and there during the day. Sometimes I just sit there and watch them fall asleep. Man, is that the cutest and sweetest thing in the entire world?? As they flop over to the side and stretch in funny ways. Cute overload!!!!!

Also, just remembered - I count them constantly. Every time I walk past them, I make sure that there are exactly eight.

I'm not exactly sure what evil vermin will steal them out of my dining room, but, you know....

I sure thought I was the only one who did this! Another reason I count is to make sure that nobody has escaped the brooder. They're getting big and DH better get on the stick with our new coop for them!

My first flock just turned a year last weekend. I loved raising them and spent sooo much time with them as they grew to be adults. I think it pays off when they all recognize you and come when you call them for a round of snacks (helps to keep them out of the veggie garden when they free range).
I have new fuzzy butts coming the end of this week and more by next week and I'm bursting with anticipation! I will again spend tons of time with them (DH perspective) neglecting house and garden. What gives, they are such a joy to watch!
I'm truly bitten by the chicken-bug and it is so nice to know that I'm not alone.
