Do you guys open doors for girls?

I open doors when im in a spot to do so but going out of your way to do it looks bad to people now a days.

The ladies would probably have doors open for them ALL the time if it was not for the few women who seem to think that they just should "expect" a man to hold the door for them.

Nothing is MORE irratable than some "queen" to just walk through with out a glance, a nod or more importantly a "thank you".

This just turns the men off from ever doing this again., trust me.

I have even had women STAND on the other side of the door waiting for me to go out (or in) a building expecting me to open the door for them when they were there long before me.

I usually suprise them and just snap my fingers and turn around like i forgot something. Now that seems to make em think twice.

It is like they are testing you to do them a favor. I would not open a door this way for a movie star, trust me.

If I am with a young lady, of COURSE I open the door for them. Anything else would be rude.

I would rather open a door for another dude than some strange women, at least they ALWAYS say thanks or give it a nod or signal of appreciation.

I hold the door open for people all the time and I don't mind if someone does the same for me. Most of the time, I don't think of it as a gender issue but just basic politeness.

It does irritate me when someone opens my car door. Perhaps, I am too practical, I can get in and out of the car quicker on my own.

I have taught my son to open doors for women and consider it good manners. I would never go on a second date with a man who did not open the door for me. I am not a princess and I always say thanks.

I always try to hold the door for a lady, it was just expected of me the way I was raised. One time I held the door for this woman and she gave me the dirtiest look and looked me right in the eye and said" Do you think that just because I'm a woman that I can't open a door for my self!!! That is offensive to me!!!" Well I just looked at her and smiled and said" I'm sorry ma'ma, I didn't mean to offend you!" and I let the door slam in her face and she spilled coffee all over herself!!!! It was great!!!! hahaha

Deb1, I'm with ya on the car thing. Annoying.
I guess the root of the issue is *why* is it "just the polite thing to do"?
If we're really equals and a man isn't being patronizing, then why do it?

In other cultures the highest ranking person goes through the door first, and it's a HUGE deal if they don't. I don't find opening the door for someone anywhere NEAR as complicated as I find some other cultures' customs about doors.

When I was younger it did bother me. I'm a woman not a weakling, I can open the door for myself!!!!
However as I got older I found myself opening the door for my mom at the store, and stuff like that. I finally realized what it was all about. I'm a woman too, but opening the door for my mom is still respectful (I don't have any brothers, it's not that there were any male slackers in my family, there just weren't ANY guys. lol)

It's not that I would go out of my way, or expect anyone else to go out of their way to open the door for me either, but it's polite when it happens.
I always make sure to tell the person thank you, unless it's "understood" (I don't think it's necessary to thank DH every time....)

I don't find it a big deal either way really, but no matter what happens I don't find it offensive!\\

Oh, and I've never had anyone open the car/truck door for me. THAT I do find kinda weird like I am just supposed to sit there and wait.....yeah never happened, probably won't ever happen.
Well I am almost always driving, MY OWN truck, so if you got out and opened my door for me that would be just REALLy freakin weeeeeird.
