When I enlisted in the Air Force during the summer of 1980 (DEP) I had to sign a statement that I had no tattoos that could not be covered by a Class B short sleeve blouse. When I got to Lackland for basic in June of 1981 after I graduated I had to again sign that form and one that stated any new tattoos would not be visible while in uniform whether it be dress or regular greens, we didn't have the camo back then. It informed us that if we did knowingly have a tattoo applied in a visible area it was grounds for discharge.
As soon as I graduated I went into San Antonio and had a 1 inch red X tattooed on my bum with the letter KMA in red. Only those who know me very well know about that tattoo.

Judging on looks is not right, but as a teacher I try and tell my students that it will happen. If they go for job or even college interview and have 1/2 inch nose plugs or ear plugs and lots of ink, they won't be taken seriously and they won't be called back.
If you want to look professional you can't present that look to the public.

I am 36 and have considered it many, many times since I became an adult. To me, they seemed so common and undignified. LOL

I am not saying that they ARE, and I see some very noble ones among the pictures. I am ONLY saying why I don't have them. It's like watching everyone having fun stomping in a puddle and being too stiff to join because you don't want to muck up your trousers. I feel like I am missing all the fun.

I love OTHER peoples' tattoos.

I do have a dot on my back. About 20 years ago, I was at a friend's house and some of them were giving themselves tattoos with needle & thread. I didn't actually want one (undignified!) but I did want to see what it felt like. So I leaned over the table and one of them pulled down my shirt collar and poked me with the needle a few (bazillion) times. So I have this green dot about the size of a BB. Looks like a mole (not worthy of the name tattoo.)

About twelve years ago, I drew a picture that I have often thought I would like to have tattooed on me--small and somewhere inconspicuous. Maybe I will do that as a little secret treat for myself one day when the kids are grown.

Hubby/doc_gonzo and I don't have any "ink" yet but have been planning our "body art" together, for the past 13 years.

He wants an oceanic theme and I'm headed toward more of a memoir of art...the one thing we've agreed on is a dragon and snake entertwined as they are our Chinese horoscope signs. We want that tatoo to signify our relationship as opposed to "inking" our names on each other as we've been thinking about this tat for many years.

I plan on favorite birds (chickens, Carolina wrens), flowers, moments as in weather phenomena...just things that make me tick and are a major part of who I am...

Ski[ and I got our left nostrils pierced, for our wedding rings, since my hands tend to swell and shrink too much for me to keep a "real diamond" ring on my hand. It's small enough for me to appreciate having "a girls' best friend" and small enough for the chickens not to notice!

P.S. We're in our pre to mid 40's....LOL, seiously

There are some things i'd like to address....... 1st on the military thing i know for the marines that recently they had said if your tattoo cannot be hidden by your PT gear, its not allowed, and i believe you might not even be able to join now, if you have and exposed one, I'm kinda rusty on it since I left the Young Marines. 2nd, love all the work here, absolutely amazing!!! 3rd for the family who met KatVonD I envy you so!, i emailed her about being an apprentice, but like she'll ever get back to me lol. 4th and finally i am 15 soon to be 16 in a few months, i have some work tattooed on me. Smart decision at 15? Not the best but it has gotten me through some horrible times. I'll never suggest it to someone my age that would be insane, but just because i do have ink on my skin and a few peircings, it doesn't make me bad. Heck, in the past months i've given away about half my wordrobe to a homeless/battered persons shelter, i've given food to soup kitchens when at a time, we didn't have much even for ourselves, I've given what ever change i had on me, ect. Why do it you ask? why give away things, when i barley have them myself? Because there are people out there who thank god they can eat tonight, who cry tears of joy when they can get some warm clothes so they don't have to be wet and cold tonight, and honestly if that means eating a light dinner, or wearing the same jeans in a week or two, its worth it. Now i'm not trying to preach in whatnot i'm just saying thats why i do it. A wise woman once told me You never know when its gonna be jesus asking you for something, and would you turn him away? I just believe in helping people thats it. And, when my tweet dies, or my dog lady dies i will seriously consider getting some kind of tattoo to comemorate them. They were there for me when no one else could or wanted to be, and just because i have percings, ad ink i'm still i good chicken owner, i still tuck them in at night just as good as you, i take care of them around the clock when their sick, i love them as much as some one possibly could. Look at Bandit she died in my arms while i was researching her illness, and um i love that bird so much it was absolutely heartbreaking when she passed, and knowing how much i love her, and how hard i tried to save her even though i still blame myself for not being able to help her, i know that i am not a bad person. And if by some chance i end up in hell for some pictures on my skin, i'll be fine with that because I know i did my best, and i tried to help as much as i could. Thats all i can do is try my best..... Anyways just my 2 cents

I love looking at other peoples' tattoos. I love watching LA Ink too. I never thought I wanted any tattoos until about a year ago, I'm in my early 20's, and I have gradually come up with 3-4 ideas I really like. They all mean something to me, too.

* I definitely want a full portrait of my Quaker Parrot, Rima. I swear if you can have animal soulmates, she is it for me.
lol.png
She is a beautiful bird with gorgeous colors, and I would like a full side view of her down either the side of my thigh or the side of my calf. It has to be somewhere that doesn't bend and stretch a lot because she has a long tail and that would look warped and odd. hehe

* I want a good picture of a Giant Vinegaroon. It's my favorite arachnid by far, and unfortunately nobody knows about them! They are big, hideous, dangerous looking things...but they are absolutely harmless and every single one I've raised/kept has been so good natured and VERY handleable! I want one on my shoulderblade.

* I rescued a Ryukin goldfish from the petstore that had been attacked and her eyes wereGONE completely. She couldn't find food, so she nearly starved to death. I brought her home and trained her(yes it is possible with a little effort!) to eat on command. I had that fish for 4 years and she grew to be huge and fat in that time! Over 5 times er original size! On my birthday a few years ago, I woke up in the morning and noticed that she had laid EGGS all over in her tank! There were tons of them! And, she had always lived alone, so she had no male to stimulate her and her environmental parameters never changed to induce it. I had to go to class quickly, but when I came back home I went up to see her and she had passed away lying amongst her eggs.

I tested her water and it was fine...she was just gone. I was devastated, I loved that fish so much and she had such a strong spirit. Her name was Chiffon, and I want her image tattood on my hip. Complete with no eyes. Despite a lot of people freaking out over her appearance, she was beautiful just the way she was.

* I also might like a portrait of my Ameracauna rooster, Sparrow, tattooed on me somewhere. Just his head and top part of his neck. He is beautiful, and we are bonded really closely. In fact, he and his girlfriend Rizzo are going to be house chickens because he is so attached to me.

I have two tattoos and my son is a tattooist. He has to be inspected reg. He moved his shop from one part of a building to about 10 feet on the other side of it. He had to go through the inspecting start up all over again. He has to keep very detailed reports on all of his clients. The health inspector can drop in at any time and does at least once a month to do a check.

I have been very worried about the HEP and Aids. I asked him what is someone has it and doesn't tell you. He said MOM I treat everyone likek they have it. I glove up and wear protective stuff as if I am working on someone that has it. it is not my chosen profession for him but he loves it.

Getting a tattoo isn't just a whim it should be thought out . It hurts and don't let anyone tell you it doesn't. If you don't follow the after care to the limit you can get some very terrible things and infections that take a long time to get over it.

This is off the subject but we are worried about tattoos and I just found out in the state of Indiana they do not inspect beauty salons anymore. They used to have a state inspector that would come around and make sure that everything is being sterilized and things aren't being used over and over on different clients. Well no more. Talk about the diseases. That worries me more than the tattoo stuff because more people are at risk there and kids and babies go there. I used to own my own shop in Ohio and we had to be inspected all the time.

I agree with you about judging too quickly. I think most tatoos are a work of art. I don't like explicit, racial, etc tats. It's like cosmetic plastic surgery: If you got the money and it makes you feel better, then why not? I personally don't want a tat. Let's wait and see about the plastic surgery, though.
