I have kept freshwater aquaria in the past, and if our current home was not so tiny, there would be fish tanks here, too.
At one point in my life, I had 6 tanks in my house, the smallest being 29 gallons, the largest being 75 gallons. I've never done marine (saltwater) tanks, but for most of my adult life, I have had at least 2 tanks in my house until about 11 years ago when I got divorced from my previous spouse & he kept all the tanks just to get back at me (and let all the fish die... LONG story, not the point of my post LOL).
Now, I am happily remarried for several years. Farmer Lew and I keep chickens, mainly because we have more room for them (the yard outside our house is a LOT bigger than the living space inside our house LOL). I had not considered the similarities between the two until I read your post. It's pretty uncanny. I think if you have the space and funds, you should have BOTH.

And I'd probably have a koi pond, too... hmm.... I may do that anyway... shhhh, don't tell Farmer Lew... I gotta figure out how to convince him to dig the hole.
