Do you keep yours locked up until egg laying is done?

I was wondering about that myself today. I have ten hens. I don't know how many are laying -or who. I have gotten as many as nine eggs one day, but usually I find 8.

I have seen hens head for the coop to lay eggs during the day when I was letting them out earlier. I love watching the rooster escort them back to the flock, but the number of eggs seems to be lower on those days. I suspect someone has a nest in the woods that I can't find, so now I have been waiting until I have 8 eggs before letting them out of their coop and play pen to free-range.

I figure I'm happy with 8 eggs daily. I was going to ask what others were doing.

** Edited to add that I was planning this to be a temporary trial. Once I get 8 eggs a day, I planned to return to letting them out earlier. Just want to be sure everyone knows where to put their eggs. Happy face! I don't get any on the floor anymore, either.

No, because some of mine lay very late in the day. I have found nests in odd places outside the hen house, but to lock them up till everyone leaves an egg wouldn't give them much free range time.
