Do you know what breed these chicks are?

These were bought as "silkies" but they can't be. They have a yellow beak and pink skin. They do have feathering on 3 of their 5 toes (although one chick does have 4 toes on one foot).

I'd say silkie crosses (those five toes are a silkie trait.) At the moment, it's too early to even guess at what they might be crossed with. What other breeds did the seller have? That might give you a few options for a cross.

I am not sure but my guess is they are a yellow colored Brahma

Thanks. We just called up the breeder. He swears they are purebred silkies and won't budge on it.

Aren't silkies supposed to have silkied feathers??? I see normal feathering on yours. They should also have a crest, which those definitely do not have. Your "breeder" is either an idiot or a liar.

Faverolles chicks are yellow with feathered legs, but yours don't seem to have muffs. Primaries don't quite look right either for a Fav.

I'm thinking he's a lying idiot? He told me they're 'special' silkies when I called today and is adamant they are silkies. He said that if they grow up to not be silkies that he will refund us our money. But... a) how much longer and how much more proof do I need that they're not silkies and b) will he keep his word?!

Silkie cross. Sultans are white, have white skin and V combs.

snake oil salesman alert! "special".... These are ALREADY proven not silkies- at hatch.

Tell him to budge his butt- skin not dark. feathers are normal. What's the hold up with the refund already? If he has seen the pics, and still tries to argue, he's hopeless. He might as well try to tell you to keep waiting when the chicks are a month old with normal feathers all over.
