I am almost always standing there watching my BR hen, Gertie. She is slow as I don't know what. I'm generally standing there going, "Out with it, Gert. Hurry it up." Once she finally drops it, I just say, "Thank you Gertie. See ya later."
She just looks at me with that
look of hers and hops out of the nest. I can imagine what she is saying, so I don't bother translating it from Bawkese into English.
Right now I only have the one laying, and when she's done, I pat her and thank her. If I get there too late, and she's already out of the nest, she comes up to me clucking. I go to the box, get it out, and she comes up for her "Thank You". But, she's an odd bird, anyway! LOL!
Most of my hens don't care except for the silkies they SCREAM and BWAH BWAH BWAH BWAHHHH! when they see me taking eggs because they are always going broody.
Mine could care less unless they are broody, then they peck at my hand for reaching in the nest but don't really seem to notice that I've stolen their loot. Of course if I place and egg back next to a broody she quickly shoves it back under. Still, they are just as happy sitting on nothing. As for the daily layers, they just don't take notice and if they are in the coop they just watch me with curiosity to see if I have any food.
