Do YOU like to feed and watch wild birds?

Bluebirds! We had soooo many of them here this summer. We have a few boxes but my goal is to have at least 6 more boxes for them by late winter. They are so beautiful.

I love all birds (I even still love birds of prey). There was once a bald eagle across the street from our house, we watched it for about 20 minutes while it perched on a dead tree near the creek.

It seems as if some of the birds are hiding because it's rain mixed with snow right now. All I've seen so far is a Male White-Bellied nuthatch, a male cardinal and his mate and a Tufted Titmouse. I like the Red-tailed hawks except when they land on my coop and scare my poor chickens!!! I don't think I'll be having trouble with the squirrels on my bird feeder this year because this past spring my dog developed a grudge against squirrels. You should see her chase those silly squirrels!!!!

There's some Bluebirds and some Goldfinches in the Maple tree. Goldfinches turn greyish-brown in the winter. The male Goldfinch has a gold patch in between their wings. If you can PLEASE post pictures of your favorite type of bird.

Avid bird watcher, here!

Will post some pix later today of the ones who visit our place. Carolina Wrens are one of my favorites as well as Red-Tailed Hawks. I know that the R-T H's are predators with chicken keeping, but I love them no less. They are poetry in motion, in my book.

I love wild birds! My favorites are cardinals and red-winged blackbirds. I have several birdfeeders near my kitchen window so that I can look out the window and watch the birds while doing kitchen chores.

I get loads of entertainment from watching my feeders. Here’s a shot of one of my bird feeders, sorry it’s so dark, only way for me to get digital pics is my cell phone, and this was in the evening on a snowy day. No birds in this pic since I can’t really snap a pic unless I go outside and much too close, but my list so far is growing FAST! The evergreens to the left give GREAT cover for the little songbirds to watch, wait, stay warm and have access to the goodies.

There’s another pole that has another feeder on top, and a suet basket hanging from one of the side bars.

Our woodpecker visitors are LOVING the suet cage!

Several of the jaunty black capped chickadees come very close and cheep to hurry me up when I’m filling the feeders, I’m waiting for one to hop right up before I’m even done!

I have the feeders far away from the coop location so the wild visitors are occupied and not likely to be too interested in the chicken feed, bringing viruses or parasites or anything else to the hens, but it’s always a concern.
