They named our school turtle after the hypocritical, often quite patronising man who used to be our school chaplain. At his leaving assembly, I was the only person who didn't stand up and cheer for him.

We found two painted turtles on the road one summer and kept them for about a month before releasing them into a pond.

While I like turtles I do not take in wild ones. I just stop and move them off the road. I am told that once the are "domesticated" they don't ever do well in the wild again, and they live a really long time.
