Nah. Our 7th anniversary is coming up in October. Crushes don't last that long.
Dh is the one who suggested I get chicks in Mar 2020. (Yep, pandemic chicken mama here.) He was on board with getting more chicks this spring as long as they were pullets, and I agreed. Was going to get 5, then the breeder only had 2 of the breed I wanted, added 2 of a different breed, and lost one of those the first night. So, 3 more chicks this year.

We added on to the coop, then the run, so we have a good amount of space for our 7 birds. I'm going through integration right now. So are the chickens. It's been a bit stressful, but seems to be going pretty well.

I can hold off till next spring, and then have chicks only if a hen goes broody.

So I say right now, anyway....

So I was able to fight the urge to order. I put them in my cart, closed the web page, checked them again, closed the page, it happened a few times. 😂

To curb the urge, I made a plan for next year’s order. I ordered my hatching eggs & started making a list for my June chick order, & requested a few 2022 catalogs. Knowing there’s more coming makes it easier to say no, & gives me something to wait for!

I’ll have my vegetable seed and chick catalogs coming this winter to give me something to plan! (I also have a seed-buying problem but that is easier to hide as long as I get home before DH to get the package 😂).

What are you all doing to curb the urge? Anyone give in & buy more? :lau

I'm going through integrating (3) 12 week olds and (4) 17 month olds, one of whom is my "problem hen." She's lowest on the pecking order, and is sequestered in a crate in the run because she was pecking the chicks through the fence. Grabbing them might be a better description.

I'm going to let her out tomorrow night at dusk, to go into the coop with the others. Then Thursday morning, I'll be out there at dawn to see how things go. With a fishing net, if I have to grab her.

Stressed out chicken momma here! Going through this is curbing my desire to get any chicks.

You’ll forget all about it by next year‘s chick order, don’t worry! :gig
