Dh is the one who suggested I get chicks in Mar 2020. (Yep, pandemic chicken mama here.) He was on board with getting more chicks this spring as long as they were pullets, and I agreed. Was going to get 5, then the breeder only had 2 of the breed I wanted, added 2 of a different breed, and lost one of those the first night. So, 3 more chicks this year.Nah. Our 7th anniversary is coming up in October. Crushes don't last that long.
You’ll forget all about it by next year‘s chick order, don’t worry!I'm going through integrating (3) 12 week olds and (4) 17 month olds, one of whom is my "problem hen." She's lowest on the pecking order, and is sequestered in a crate in the run because she was pecking the chicks through the fence. Grabbing them might be a better description.
I'm going to let her out tomorrow night at dusk, to go into the coop with the others. Then Thursday morning, I'll be out there at dawn to see how things go. With a fishing net, if I have to grab her.
Stressed out chicken momma here! Going through this is curbing my desire to get any chicks.
