Do you sell eggs to your friends & neighbors - or give away?

thats funny, where did they think they come from?? I know, my daughter is like that, she says its weird eating eggs from "them".

They probably think they come from machines or the egg fairy comes and drops them off at the store.

But my family is wierd one time they saw my roo mating with my BR and came in running say the roo is attacking the chicken.

It is weird to eat an egg that you watched come out of a chicken's butt. I don't eat anything that comes out of any other animal's butt.

And it's also weird (and sad) to have eggs still in the refrigerator from my chicken who died on Tuesday.

To help my friends and neighbors know my chickens, I write the chickens' names on the bottom of the eggs.

I was giving them away at work but it got to be where people almost "expected" them. I've decided that I am going to start selling them for $2 a dozen - just to help for feed. I will give them to my in laws for free but that's gonna be it.

We do both. We give them away to some people who in return save tons of cartons for us. But like some other people mentioned if you give them away to one you have to give them away to them all. We give deals to our regular customers. $1.50 a dozen if they bring us a carton. Everyone seems okay with this. Oh yeah, and sometimes we give the first dozen for free and if they like them then they can buy them.

I have problems with people expecting eggs too, but I worry about trying to sell mine in case someone claims to get sick because of my eggs. I just give them away. It would be nice though if once in a while someone offered me some money for them.

Some of my husband's co-workers actually offered to pay him themselves for some of the eggs (they were eating those "veggie fed chicken eggs" from the store) and just asked us to come with a reasonable price. At our local farmer's locally grown market eggs go on avg for about $4/dozen, but we're only asking $3 since our girls are not always consistent enough to meet demand and we only sell off our farm and not thru markets.

We live in a small village, so I give my eggs to those that live beside and behind me. They live with the sounds and general chickeness of the birds- its the least I can do to make up for anything for them.

I know how you feel vermont...after a fox killed my sweet BR Winnie it was hard for me to see her pretty brown eggs every time I opened the frig. I had a little memorial in my mind for her all over again when I finally cooked them up.

I give my neighbors who put up with my crowing hen free eggs because they have to hear her every morning and they never complain. I sell the rest of my eggs for $2.00 a dozen at work and I have a waiting list. Selling the eggs helps off set feed costs and gives you some pocket change. I honestly don't get why people think just because you have chickens that you should give your eggs away? Does the dairy farmer give away milk? No, they don't! Sell your eggs and if people ask why, let them know that you're off setting feed costs and people will understand.

I usually trade off with people for things. My uncle brought over a a stack of corrugated roofing and lots of egg cartons. We give him eggs.

A neighbor gives me his ugly old coops and runs that I strip down and recycle into something a little better (my building skills are lol) but, better than these things. Sometimes he helps strip them down. He gets eggs.

We are thinking of selling a few maybe later this spring.
