So far I have 3 grown Pharaoh (unknown sexes) and 3 baby coturnix (1 male and 2 female). They are in separate cages but I am thinking that when they babies get bigger I will put them all together. I know I have to watch the ratio of boys to the girls but is there any reason to keep them separated? I am doing this as a family hobby if that helps.

It's most important to put them together as chicks if you want them to be nice to each other later in life.

wait till they are all close in size and you can sex them. Then you can keep them where they can see each other but not attack each other. Or if you dont want to do that, just move the cage to distract them and add the new ones. Cots dont like change but if the scenery changes they pay attention to that more then new birds. I had a rooster that was ruthless with every other bird, they would all be in a circle around the water and he would sneak around the whole circle mating with everyone, even the other males so I took him out and put another one in at feeding time when they are busy.
