Do You Think That Hanging Laundry Outside Looks Bad?

lol same here!

wonder if a big net type bag would work good for little socks?

The socks would mildew first. I must confess that when it's raining I will string cord along the posts on the front porch for laundry- but as I said, we have a formidable hedge!

Why not? There is nothing offensive about drying clothing. I don't see any need to hide your sheets from the neighbors' view.

Your neighbors' see you wear the clothing, why does it suddenly become offensive if you put the same clothing on a line?

We don't get after people for parking a car on the driveway instead of a garage. Maybe I don't like the way my neighbor's truck looks, so why should I be forced to stare at it outside my window?

(Actually, I like my neighbor's truck just fine)

Actually......some HOAs in my area NE Indiana (Fort Wayne) ban parking in driveways (you must park in the garage), flags (even American flags) because someone might put up a college flag their neighbor doesn't like, leaving the garage door open (even if you are working in it), etc. That's why I live in the boondocks with a half-mile long driveway. The only complaint I've ever gotten is from a neighbor that I won't let hunt our woods (because he is an inconsiderate a##), and obviously that wasn't an "OFFICIAL" complaint.

O.k. undoubtly I worded something wrong but I can't find it. I am not against hanging out clothes.....I hang out our families clothes every day that its not raining, even when its cold (must be sunny though). The only thing I said I can find for the reason people are complaining about this lady is that she is hanging her clothing in the front yard for all to see. I descretely hang ours out back.

I am all for a cloths line. Every house in America needs one or two. But for no reason will I ever hang our undies out in the front yard

I think there are people who are overly concerned about their home's resale values and think that seeing clotheslines will lower the value of their home.

I could get away with having a clothesline in the front yard or the backyard where I am now, in a more rural setting. But, in my old house I suspect there would be complaints if I had one in the front yard.

I like seeing clotheslines in people's yards, it's a reminder that people do in fact live there and that they are not just yards and houses for show.

At the beginning of spring I talked my husband into putting up a clothes line. Not only does it makes everything smell fresh, Our electric bill have come down 30%,
I love it

The HOA here would not allow a fruit tree to be put in one of my co workers yard.... they maintain the height of the grass, regulate the pets you can have, and what you can put in your windows. This odd body can pretty much do anything.

tdgill, you are brilliant......Okay, it's a kids fortress and it's outside is a lightweight brown firmly tacked to the ground so no laundry would peep through and underneath there are wet clothes......

Now I don't have time to copy right this, but if there are covert chicken coops that look like trash cans, I don't know why this wouldn't work......

You'd have to have a part of the play fortress that connected to the main house door so no one could see you come and go to get your clean clothes, but if they flew surveillance over your property,,,,,mmmm,,,,you might get in trouble. If you didn't have children,,,,,,mmmmm could you call it your pet pen

I keep coming back to this thread.....My country forefathers and mothers would just laugh until they cried at this one....

I do think the covert portable children's fortress would work. I'll try to work on a plan for one and post it.....Anyone who gets there before me, help yourself....I'm so generous, I'll even give you the royalties...

Lord, I'm grateful for my 3 lines of flapping clothes! I'll go post that one on my gratitude thread....

Have a good one and if you want me to put your clothes in our Georgia sunshine, I'll be glad to do that for you...........

Ya know, the more i think about this..the more upset i get.
I mean, with the electric prices the way they are...HOW can they deny these people their basic right to line dry their clothes.
Noone knows their financial problems..maybe they are trying to be more green and save money where they can...
i'd fight it..i'd sue the HOA for the extra cost on my electric bill for a dryer monthly!!!!

these days you would think hanging laundry on the line makes you look environmentally friendly, not trashy. And as for underwear, I hang it on the other side of something else so no one can see it
