Do you trust me?¿

He's not a wolf, but should not be trusted with the ducks unsupervised.
this dog is being trained by me- he is on strict probation until I am sure of him-
I take him on a lead to the duck house and run in the morning and he herds them with me around the property-

Please tell me how you are teaching him. I've got a border collie puppy that I'd really like to train to herd but I don't know how! She won't hurt them and she's got incredible instincts to herd.

Might not even have the herding instinct, hope he does but there are certain breeds that are bred for herding.
what breed is he? I've got 2 border collies and they are herders but not protectors
Denver is a street dog he may be a shepard of sorts. Acts like a Cattle Dog.

My uncle who was a dairy farmer had a dog like that just show up. Went to work bringing in the cows morning and afternoon without any training
I may have the luck of your Uncle. He is a smart dog it's amazing.

Serious luck! My Siberian husky will guard my ducks as long as they are in their run, but I wouldn’t expect them to last two seconds around her if there wasn’t a sturdy barrier between them and her. Her small prey instinct is just too strong and she was a street dog before being caught by the pound we adopted her from. She was skin and bones, though, so that starvation experience may be overriding her desire to please me.

She is quite well fed, now.
