^^^And my silly Serama going broody in January!
You have a verry nice basket of eggs! My silkie acts broody every time she lays an eggs, sits in the nesting box, fluffs up and growls at anybody who dares mess with the evil nutty chicken. She still lays eggs though. :idunno Deffintly silly. Maybe you could hatch some darker egg layers under her if she goes broody in the spring?

Good idea! Might try that! I know several places to get Marans hatching eggs.

I really like the Black Copper Marans eggs. Like chocolate colored. I only have space for 2 more chickens. I could expand... but might just replace the curent gals with young layers in a few years. Maybe add some Olive Eggers, EEs, Marans, Isbars in a few years.

That’s a gorgeous basket of eggs! Makes me miss when our girls were laying. Tis the season of rest. The only hen who’s laying is my house Cochin, Mulan, who has very pretty light brown eggs.

Also, most of our EEs are free loaders who don’t want to lay in nest boxes but around in hidey nests around the property. They’re like, “You want pretty eggs? Go find yourself!”
