Do you wash fresh eggs? Refrigerate or no?

I've used eggs that have been unwashed ( refrigerated though) and pretty old and they've been fine- I'm talking months old. I bake with the really old ones. Trust me, you'll know if you have a bad egg- they are usually black and stink to high heaven.

I'm planning on not washing mine and putting them in the fridge, but that's just to save counter space! Depending on how many we get at a time, maybe I'll convert one of my pantry drawers instead. Haha

I don't wash them. I have decided to go with the information I was given about the bloom, that it's a protective layer that prevents bacteria entering the pores of the shell. I lost my first flock to predators. I have 5 new girls. Got them at 2 weeks and am waiting for the first egg.

. When I gave eggs away I made sure there wasn't and fecal mater, it flick it away or if it was messy I didn't give that one away. I didn't have hardly any messy eggs though. I tell my friends to refrigerate and wash when ready to use. I also read not to use soap. Just was under cool running water gently rubbing. Then they are good to go. I don't know wether that's to much about a whole lot of nothing or not but it's a practice I developed. I just don't want to share infected eggs or feed hubby an infected egg. It may or may not be important to do but it's become a habit. If I find a cracked egg I don't eat it. I boil it and feed it back to the girls for a snack and that's wasn't often either.

I hot water rinse, only scrubbing any debris off, then refrigerate. I have noticed just running them under hot water doesn't always remove the bloom, I have watched them air dry and you can see a difference on how they dry, the more you rub them the more of the bloom is removed, just my opinion

I agree. That's why I don't wash until I'm ready to crack open.

Poop in my fridge freaks me out, on my floors, on my shoes, in the yard, on my hands, that's okay, crazy right

We got our first two eggs today! My question is......one goofy chicken laid her egg in her water pan......it's cracked but not broken. Should I toss it?
Thanks!

I don't use any egg that is cracked. Bacteria can get in through the crack. It's just not worth getting sick. I boil them and feed them back to the chickens. I don't get that many cracked eggs. My new flock of 5 girls started laying this week, I believe 2. Waiting on the others. And I'm waiting on my Easter egged to lay a beautiful colored egg.

I would, even if it was cracked I would toss it, I certainly wouldn't eat one that's in the water, the bacteria in the water is now in the egg.

if its cracked it should be tossed, no use getting sick over 1 egg. as far as washing and refrigerating them goes, I don't do either. ive had them on my counter for as long as 2 months. in 2 years ive only had two bad eggs. I get between 7 and 11 eggs a day, so im not doing to bad.
