Do you wash or sanitize your eggs before selling?

That's what I do too. So what are all the fancy schmancy egg washers, egg sanitizers etc etc that I see in catalogs. I just use dish soap and hot water just before I use them and tell people who buy them to do the same. Is this adequate?

Ditto, I tell them this way you know you are getting the real deal...

Store bought eggs are already washed so it is not needed. I wash the dirt and poop if any, before I use it.

White store-bought eggs are usually bleached.
I just give mine a quick, cold water rinse, if needed, and scrub the icky parts with a soft nail brush. No soap, might be absorbed through the shell.

You should probably check your local laws, since they are all different. Here in SC, if I sell the eggs at my farm, I don't have to follow the USDA standards, including washing, grading, and labeling. However, if I want to sell them off the farm, including taking them to people at work, I am required to follow those standards.

Like was mentioned before, check your state and local laws.

In Illinois you can sell them out of your yard with no restrictions. If you take them out of the yard like to a farmers' market it is the same as selling them retail; washed, graded, new cartons, etc.

Yup, that's the way it is here in SC. Pretty easy rules, but if I take them to work to GIVE away, I don't worry about it. However- SC does require clean cartons, no recycling. Rats. So when I sell from the rancho, I use brand new cartons. For giveaways, cleaned, reused cartons.

Actually, in SC you can use recycled cartons for retail. You just have to make sure they are clean and that you have your label attached to the carton.

I actually have email confirmation of that. If you'd like me to send it to you, let me know.
