Do you wear a helmet every time you ride?

Some dude at a local speed/bike shop displays a helmet with 1/4 of the face taken off. He happily tells the story of how he skidded on his face after a wipeout and that's how the helmet got that way. His face is unscared. He never tells anyone to wear a helmet but most people leave the shop with an "oh sht" feeling in their guts.

I absolutely wear one and make my grandson when he rides. I never used to wear one and for some unknown reason (an angel on my shoulder perhaps?) I was thrown off and landed on the back of my head. The helmet had a nice dent in it. Glad it wasn't my head or I might not be writing on this forum!

You weren't wearing protection so you have no case. Sorry.

Oh my ... I forgot to wear my BYC surfing helmet ..

They do have their purpose. I used to be very involved with road racing motorcycles (on a track not the street) and helmets were mandatory and a really good idea.

I've seen a number of lives saved by the wearing of a helmet.

I couldn't ride a rice rocket without a helmet. You're leaning head forward.

Now for a cruiser like mine most of the accidents I've seen result in leg and back injuries. 2 of my friends are in the hospital. One has a crushed foot and a few broken vertibrae. She will be OK. Kevin is in a coma they induced to make him stay still. His leg is wasted and his ribs punctured a lung. Neither were wearing helmets but that doesn't matter since there were no head injuries. They were both on Harleys.
