Do you wear special footwear in your run?

I wear shoes outside on the property that never leave the property nor go inside the house. I have shoes that I wear off property that I don't wear around the coops. I have croc type sandals as well as cheapie running shoes for chicken shoes.

It's for disease management purposes. Don't want to wear shoes to the feed store and track someone's infectious disease germs back to my chickens. I never wear chicken shoes into town nor wear town shoes around the chickens.

Never thought about that~so thanks for the education! Usually I just wear whatever is on my feet at the time.

garden clogs or barefoot. feet are sometimes easier to scrub off than shoes.

True but I'd have to walk all the way through my house to get to a faucet with warm water (and with a well, there's no way I'm washing my feet with outside water-it's freezing all year round). Not to mention lack of soap outside.

I'm a chickenless newbie... I get the whole cross contamination thing with the shoes. However, I just read a poster in another section say they have a chair in the coop and they sit and watch their flock. That is all well and good, but they went on about how the hens sit on their lap and even on top of their head.

Maybe the real question should be - Do you wear a special hat in your run?

When the time comes, I am guessing I'll have a dedicated pair of shoes, but I doubt I'll be straight laced as some of y'all. With 3 dogs and the cat running in and out I can't very well wipe their paws everytime they come in from outside.

I won't run around barefoot in the run, that is for sure. But, God made dirt and dirt don't hurt either

I ordered boots online for myself for Christmas this year from my husband. He was quite pleased with himself. (men)

They have roosters and hens on them and I love them! Rubber boots. I park them at the front door where I come in as no one ever uses the door but me! They have been wonderful to have and I don't have to worry about what shoes to put on! Gardeners Supply is where I ordered them from.

I had some old pink crocs but they had some bling on them, so I had to pick off the bling. I was afraid they would pick at them and eat it. I don't know if chickens see color. I assume they do because I use to wear flip flops and they would attack my red toe nail polish. I too take my crocs off in the garage.

Our coop is built into our shed. The kids and I have rubber boots that stay in the shed. I also have several extra pairs for when the kids have friends over. No chicken boots are allowed near the house and no regular shoes are allowed in the coop.
