Do your chickens mind the rain?

Mine don't care... even my little silkie goes out.. if it gets really heavy they will go under the coop.. they all look pathetic wet.

I will be interested as well on how they handle the snow and plan on roofing some of the run because it can get miserable here. They are not fond of wind however!

my chickens opinions on the rain are decided upon what treats are out in the yard for them. if there are none, then they stay in the coop. the ducks didnt mind it though! i hope my hens let them in the coop last night though, its got down to 30 and snowed a little

Nobody told my Buff Orps that they weren't supposed to go out in the rain, and they have been doing fine this last year and a half. They look pretty pathetic, all bedraggled with their wet feathers, but seem to enjoy being out. The pop door is always open during the daytime so it is free choice for them. They do go inside to lay (and when it has been dark and gray I do expect a few fewer eggs).

Who told you Orps can't get wet? Never heard that one before! A chicken is a chicken is a chicken....they get wet and they get dry later on. No harm, no fowl.....er...foul.

Interesting, I let my girls range for like...5 minutes when it started pouring and they all bolted for the coop. What was ironic was that it was their first time ranging since they'd been wanting out and it was a major fail, haha.

Sounds like most people's chickens have no problem with being in the rain, I'm assuming we are talking about chickens who are all grown up an fully feathered? Cause I remember a thread a while ago about different ways folks have accidentally killed their chicks/chickens- someone's young chicks were exposed to an automatic sprinkler (by accident of course) that was programed to come on at midnight, and next morning she came out to 25 little dead Mcnugget looking chicks.

Their down had gotten soaked. (just so someone new to chickens doesn't think it's OK to let the young 'uns get wet... Keep those babies warm and dry!)

well its been raining with gusting winds here the whole day they went out just fine this morning....uhmm but then I had to clean the coop so I closed the pop door...uhmm they were not happy with that. Once I was done I let them in and they haven't gone back out. Poor things are just sitting there looking out and bawking away LOL so to answer your question if its a light mist they could care less but this gusting wet stuff coming down sure isn't agreeing with them!!!
