It's been raining two days straight here and I have to laught at by 6 mo GLW. They act like it's sunny and dry and have been grazing the lawn steady. Are they crazy or do your birds put up with rain too. I hope this means they'll tolerate the snowy weather also.

Chickens will stay out in the rain if its going to rain all day but will run for shelter for only a short shower. My chickens forage right along when its rainy weather. They also love to be out in the snow, so I guess they love rough weather.

I think the rain and cloudy skies makes them feel safer from hawks. Earthworms will often come up out of wet ground. It seems that mine scatter more when it is raining, not staying bunched up as much as normal, and wander further than normal. Mine do not like the snow or wind but they seem to really enjoy the rain.

Yeah mine stay out in the rain even though there's a big shed open for them with straw, food and water; they prefer being outside grazing and digging for worms.
They look kind of bedraggled but seem OK.

Once our yard flooded and they were just standing there w/ rushing water up to their bellies, so I put them in the shed which was only a few feet away but they didn't go in by themselves. I guess they really aren't that smart after all

But I do make them stay in the coop all night so they get a chance to dry off.

My answer is going to be no.

I have a rooster by himself for now in a big run and I have a small shelter that is a large dog house in there for him. I have a roost in the dog house and have put his food in there. He goes in to eat and yesterday I saw him laying in there looking out. But night time comes around and he is on top of the dog house everytime.

I thought the first time it rained that he would go inside. Nope....even got the flashlight out and looked out my bedroom window to check. He was right up on top in the rain. Last night it rained again.....and there he was...on top! Hopefully my DH will get home soon from working out of state and get the new 'normal sized' coop built for him and his new girls.

But mind the rain.....not so much.

Mine love the gentle Seattle rain, just not fond of Seattle storms. If it rains heavily they will gather under the garden shed eaves.
Snow- now that's a different story. They know that the abominable snowman lives there, and it eats chicken.

My chickens hardly mind me - I do not think they mind the rain at all.

We dont get too much rain around here. The chickens dont mind a light drizzle, but they will all run for cover when it starts coming down, only a small number of them dont mind the rain. I leave their coop and run door open during the day, but only a few will go in there during the rains for shelter. Mine like to go under the houses because that is where most of the bugs like to hang out.
