Do your chickens recognize your face, your voice, or both?

I was wondering if you all had some stories about chickens recognizing their humans. I have yet to "test" my chickens for recognition myself :D

You'll soon find that your chickens do recognize your voice and face when strangers come around. If you handle your chickens a lot, and bring them treats, they will know you're number one in their lives.

A couple of my chickens even respond to their names.

I almost forgot to say that it's well known that chickens know over a hundred different faces of their immediate flock.

Funny that you ask, We call our Chic's "Ki-Ki's", and yes they do know me at least because I am the one that feeds them and takes treats to them.....when I go to my sisters house, I also call them and here they come running, I always take treats to them or crack some fresh pecans for them..... calling them like cats is my sisters fault she started it! lol We laugh at the thought of being in a home when we are old and calling our chickens, and people thinking we are crazy!

I know mine certainly do. If they see me they come running and if I don't see them and call them, "BABIES" they come a running. I have a 41/2 cockerel that I named, "baby roo-roo" and anyone can call him and he comes running.lol
Also, every morning when I get ready to let them out of the chicken house, they can't see me and I say, Hello like Mrs. Doubtfire and you can hear them jump down off roosts and start clucking cause they know I'm about to let them out.
Who ever said chickens were dumb, didn't get to know them.:)

My girls always come running when I get home from work.. they all gather around and cluck and bwraaak at me....I dont know if they missed me, or are just wondering "what did you bring me?" lol

They adore my Wife... the shutter bug... it's almost like they pose for her.

The chickens and ducks follow me around...but only because they know I'm the food source. I'd say it's a stretch to think any chicken or duck is smart enough to recognize its name. They just recognize the sound of the food source.

I have three pullets that I began singing to, daily, when they were a few days old. They would recognize the two songs/voice immediately and bunch up at the end of the brooder. -began taking them out and letting them scratch around. Every time I would begin singing, they would come running and hop up on my leg in a little row. It was hilarious!! ...fast forward about 16 weeks, and it continues! Every time they hear my voice (singing) they come running across the lawn and jump up in my lap, or roost on my arm or shoulder. It is the funniest thing I believe I've ever witnessed!

Your wrong Emthefislady, at least in your flock maybe, I have a few birds that come when I call them by name, my chickens follow me, but when I sit down they go bout there business, unless I call one by name. I also have my girls trained to come to me and go into there pen when I shake a pill bottle. There smarter then you give them credit for. Two know there names real well and respond to them
