I just burst out in laughter in my cubicle at work. I can SEE that - I know what my ducks do every morning! Water doesn't freeze that solid here... But one 40 gallon tub got an inch of ice in it, and the ducks and geese billed it unmercifully in confusion.

Later, a chicken walked on it.... The ducks were really confused!

I did dump a watering can full in the pool, gave it a shallow little bit to splash in...but...when I came back from throwing scratch out, this is what I encountered(posted this in pics and stories of my chickens "if the ducks can do it why can't i")
They all have a big heated dog dish of water...but still think i'm depriving them

I changed out ice twice from the baths & buckets today. Filled them again with warm water. Poor things still had a poolsicle when they got back to their pen tonight.
We've had a mild winter so far, so I can't complain. (The ducks will though.)

Dont you hate when that happens! I have a video somewhere form last year when I had my Black East Indies free ranging, They slept in a coop at night, I let them out and as of every morning they go flying to their pool. Well that morning the pool was froze over, (I usually clean it out before I let them out), and one took off flying and landed in the pool completely confused with what was going on... Maybe you had to be there...

MIne went out the other morning and the pool was frozen....they kept poking at it with there bills, then all jumped in - to no avail. Tried to mate...totally comical! When that didn't work, they did what they normally do, holler loud enough and the human will take care of it. I broke the ice up.....they got in briefly. Then I dumped the pond until it warmed up. Today they are swimming away as we are in the 40's.
