Several of my local friends all have hens that each lay 1 egg / day. I have 6 hens and I am only getting 2 eggs / day instead of 5 or 6 that I would expect. All of my friends have a Rooster where I do not. Will the presence of a Rooster help the hens lay? I feed Laying crumbles, crack corn, and oyster shells and they have a constant supply of clean water. Any ideas?

If I take the Rooster out of the equation, what are the other things that cause poor daily egg count?

The hens are all 9 months old. 2 small black ones (unknown breed) and 4 White Leghorns. The 2 small black hens lay more eggs than the 4 White Leghorns!

Could something be getting your eggs..or, heaven forbid, do you have an egg eater in your flock.
I saw a squirrle take off with an egg in it's mouth the other day.
