So, one of my roosters is crowing, at least, I believe so. He's 10 weeks old. And it started around 5days ago. Not a cockadoodledo more a ... High pitch sound thats sort of like a donkey but it hasnt the eeee sound we folk tend to make when immitating them.

Basically, is this a crow? Will it change and become more standard crow like? Was mewnt to be a girl but after posting some pictures its apparently a he. Also! When hens crow, is that a standard crow too? Or again, do they sound different? My neighbour has roosters and I always hear them crowing and my possible boy and my crowing girl both sound totally different. :/

The first 6 chicks I hatched, 2 pullets, 4 cockerels, one tried to crow at 7 days old. I kid you not.
When opening their box to check them in the morning 5 would cheep and the other would twitter. I wrote down his ring colour and listened to him every chance I could. He only did this noise in the mornings for weeks then stopped it.
He did start crowing first of all 4 boys. It does start out as just a screech at first until they've practiced enough to get the full crow gowing. Some get the hang of it quicker than others. I've found mine learn faster if they can hear a cock crowing from an early age.
I've never heard a hen crow but do check which bird any crowing is coming from every chance I get.

All crowing is different, it's just like humans, our voices are all different sounding even though sometimes crows do sound pretty similar sometimes, with my roosters they've always sounded different. I had about 15 roosters for a time, about a month ago actually and i could tell each one of them by their crow, same with my hens i can tell nearly all of them by the sounds the make. But i don't know if what you describe as a donkey sounding crow is one, i'd have to hear it to be sure. Although some of the roosters i've heard have had pretty weird sounding crows. Goodluck, i hope it all goes well for you.

All my chickens sound a little different the Roos started off sounding like a strangled cat that just kinda pettered out at the end... it evolved over about a month and now they are full blown Cockadoodle Doo crows. It has been a blast to listen to the changes (there are 4 roos and they progressed at different rates)
