Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

Okay, I've ordered the Valbazen...$25 for 60mL including shipping. I sure wish I could get it locally but I called half a dozen feed stores and none of them have even heard of it. Makes me a bit nervous...but I trust both BYC folks and my own research.

If I recall, each hen gets .5cc in the beak...toss eggs for a week...do I need to repeat?

Hey...I made a poem! A chicken worming poem...LOL

Larger hens get more. A Cochin would get .8ml and a Jersey Giant would get .9ml. Dose should be ~0.2ml per 2.2 pounds.

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can use the horse ivermectin paste 1.87% TOPICALLY? I understand that the consistency is not ideal for spreading, however I already have a tube of it... and orally has not made any improvements from what I can tell... so I wanted to know if there have been successes or any warnings in administering the oral paste directly onto skin

Pastes are meant to be given orally, NOT topically. It would be totally ineffective. Giving ivomec products to chickens for worming is ineffective anyway...if that's what you're trying to do. Safeguard or valbazen are your best wormers for poultry.

I also read that even something like pour on ivermectin won't be properly absorbed by birds because the type of skin they have.
