Do you know how long it takes for a chick to come out of the shell after they have made a little hole?

We still have no babies yet. Mamma still sitting nicely. But my homemade incubator is a flop. Can't get the humidity up.
despite putting four bowls with sponges in them.

I'm thinking I should just buy one. Not like it's wont be used a lot.

My first chick has pecked it's first little spots and is chirping , it's slow moving though

Woke to a total of five little ones. I have one egg that was cracked last night but this morning showed no real progress. I pulled a small flake of shell off and poked a hole in the membrane. I was worried about air. I can see him breathe but if he hasn't progressed by the time I come home to tonight, should I help him more?

Good to here about everyone's chicks

I have 5 healthy ones

1 i had to interfere ,it started cracking but it could not break it any more so we took fully out of the shell .I'm glad we did ,it was in the totally wrong position,its leg was over its head

How long has yours been like this,is it chirping?

So far I have 1 baby!! It's a black Langshan. I have a couple rockers as well. Today is day 21.
