Does anybody ever feed caught mice to their chickens?

Not yet, my feathered friends are too small. Have a freezer full of frozen mice from when I bred snakes. As for toads, not a good idea. Toads have 2 glads, one on each side of their head, that contain a toxin that is secreted when the toad feels threatened. Depending on species, it can be deadly. Some folks actually get high from this toxin. Lick a toad, go to jail

using a TOAD to get high???? HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!! wow.

some people....but yes, my hens get live prey quite often now that its breeding season and the mice have been stupid enough to nest behind the egg boxes! and i do sometimes wish we had lizards here in ohio, but ive also heard they can be a nuisance?

I have trapped and dispatched a few Raccoons, that were harnessing my Chickens. We do eat them ( both raccoons and chickens). Have had Raccoon since I was a kid (boiled, stewed, and roasted). Would it be safe to let my Chickens have some "revenge" and toss them a freshly dispatched and skinned Raccoon? Skinned because I think there would be to much fur for them to handle.

Thanks,
Ace

Coming in second means you were the first to lose....

I think they will eat any meat. My girls caught a mouse the other day. I only knew because of the fur and feet in the covered part of their run.

Caught a mouse in a trap last night and threw it in for the chickens this morning. It was still there this evening. Guess I have dumb birds. They do lay eggs though.

Just a heads up.
I don't know if it has been said or not but if the mouse/ rat has been eating rat poison (that you or a neighbor may have put out) and your chicken eats that mouse/ rat your bird will be ingesting that poison all so.
I know the poison I use contains Brodifacoum and it will drop anything that eats the bate and/ or the dead animal that ate the bate...
