That happened on a night when it was like -20.A little off the subject, but how is the ventilation in your coop? He appears to have a frostbitten comb...
Our coop has two very large doors that are just made out of metal screening. Lots of ventilation. There is a divider door to separate off half the coop, and we have heave plastic on one of the doors, but it has big rips in it, so the air can still pas through. I also have a heat lamp on them when it gets in the teens. Haven't had any problems at all except the super cold snap that one night. Probably doesn't help that he doesn't seem to sleep close to the lamp.
