Does anyone do anything interesting with feathers the chickens lost?

wegotchickens,

Thanks for the reply...guess we'll go visit the Good Will store this coming weekend. I used to have boxes full of odd shaped bottles, got rid of them when we moved here and have

myself ever since.

Thanks Judymae! The friend it's for has his huge bathroom set-up with/for blacklights and I thought the feathers would really stand out. Here's hoping, anyways...

Hey Everyone...I teach preschool and last year I collected pinecones and feathers and the children made pinecone turkeys! They turned out so cute....and the whole thing was free. Tink:)

Do you have a picture of one? That would be a good project for my kids..I assume the ponecone is the body and the feathers are self explanatory, but did you add eyes and stuff?

My Dominiques should be naked for all the feathers they lose! If you want black and white ones, send me your address and I'll be glad to collect some for you. My Reds are too young to lose any but that should start in a month or two and they have pretty rust colored feathers.
I've never seen a project with them but seems like the earring idea with some seed beads would be pretty.

We don't have our feather-butts yet, but once they arrive we're keeping the feathers for arrows..

We (including our 3 year old, with A WHOLE LOT OF ASSISTANCE

) love to shoot long-bows, and arrows are really expensive, and do break, so if we can make our own, all the better!

I use them with horse mane hair and crystals to make the rearview mirror decoration for my truck. I have also used them on my Christmas wreaths for the house and barn.

I have a whole huge wall in my house full of pictures of family and friends, maybe 50 or so 8x10s, 10x13s, and 5x7s. So I had the idea of doing something smaller scale in the henhouse. I took all of the girl's baby pictures, growing up pictures, etc, and color copied them. Then I put them in frames that I decoupaged feathers onto. Then hung them on one wall of the coop. It looks soooooooo cool. I'll post a picture when I get my camera fixed.

You just put glue on the frame, then put the feather on, then paint glue heavily over the feather, let dry and paint glue on again, let dry, and keep going until you build up the glue over the feathers until it's completely smooth. I used modgepodge glue. To bend feathers over the edges, I used super glue first to hold them down before I applied the modgepodge glue. It was really easy, and the results are really great.
