Does anyone do medical transcription work from home?

Nothing burns my behind worse than someone new taking over a company and going through and getting rid of people that have put many years into a company. I feel they are trying to avoid that 20 yr retirement mark on some of them.

Sorry this happened to you.

They lost about half of the work force when I left and now just a handful now and then. Everything is going electronic so they won't be handling paperwork or bills from doctors anymore. Everything will be loaded and the processors will look over the bills, reveiwing before paying the providers.

It was time for me to go....glad they did because the stress was so overwhelming and everyone was getting canned or threatened to be canned. Many of them worked there for years until the new manager came in the picture. It was a terrible mistake. I remember the older employees treated us so nicely and made everyone a happy place to work for. Now it isn't. Karma came back and bit the manager in the butt big time.....came down with stroke. I know I'm mean but he deserved it! What's worst, is that none of the employees can say anything much about it when I run into them or they will get canned. Ugh! I was making good money too!

I have been an MT since 1992. The industry has changed dramatically over the last few years. What used to be a lucrative job is now just barely getting us by, mainly due to outsourcing and voice recognition. What I used to make in a week I now make in a month. I don't recommend it as a career.

By the way, I am self-trained. I started as a receptionist in a doctor's office. The MT there was not that good and I asked for and received a few tapes to try it out. Within a month, I was the MT there. I went on to working in a hospital setting and since 1999 have worked from home.

That being said, it's pretty nearly impossible now to get a job as an MT without training, plus it's a dying profession, so I feel it wouldn't be worth it in the long run.

Good luck with your Mom!

By the way, the up side is that I'm always on the computer so I can jump over to BYC any time!

Claims processing and MT are on the way out of the door phasing out because of outsourcing or technology is doing the jobs. It's a sad state of affairs where technology overrides human touch.

I live everyday with that quote: Karma will "always" come back and bite you in the behind. I left my city job because of a new manager, he was horrible. Talked to me like I was trash (I didn't set back and take it, I told him exactly what I thought about him). He got fired 6 months after I quit. I saw him at the bank, and said, sucks to be you doesn't it? I enjoyed it too

He deserved it! He was not good to people at all.

I think these new managers come in trying to act like they are better than everyone else. It just makes me sick because whoever doesn't suck up, is out the door.
