i try to win
if they cheat i wont play

i just got accused of being a brat for not letting my 11 year old beat me in a game of trouble

I do it children need to know they will not win all the time but will other times . I am very competitive and I hate the new sports rules that every game is tie and nobody loses. I agree if you always let your children win they will be sore losers when they do lose.

"Mom, you are zero fun!"

He told me that after playing cards with him for like 2 hours!

He was about 5 years old then!

I play 'nice', meaning that I won't do some strategic move at checkers, or I'll show my 4 year old some strategic move that he can pull on me. I don't let him win, but I don't try my best to beat him either, it wouldn't be fair.

i always play to win. My kids dont get frustrated because i teach them to play like i do. My oldest son gets frustrated because my youngest always beats him in strategy type games.

My parents never -let- us win, though I believe they tried not to totally trounce us into the ground. The first time I beat my father at chess, I totally freaked out and kept asking, "You didn't LET me win did you?" because the thought that he might have would have totally ruined my win. I still to this day remember how wonderful it felt that I managed to beat him "FAIR AND SQUARE" It took me years longer to beat my brother, but I finally did that too. I was the only girl on the chess team, (yes I was a geek!)

I think it's important to play it straight with kids on all games, I may help them a bit, I will encourage them, but I don't LET them win.
