That could still be called free-range keeping. Birds have access to outdoors, they simply choose to stay out of the elements. When it gets really bad mine will stay in barn for la week and even then fly over snow to land on fence or tree. During winter of 1976 we had birds that would fly between outbuildings; one had roost, another had hog feed and last had heated water through.
I've seen and read a lot on here about coups and runs, but very little about free ranging. Mine are all out during the day and they head to the coup at night.
Does anyone else do this?
