Does anyone else get frustrated at shows like "Animal Cops"

"It seems to me that the show encourages people to be mean-spirited and hateful about animals, and to cast blame and not help each other at all. There's no grey area between the heroic "Animal Cops" and the evil animal abusers, no mention of people who are in over their heads, ignorant, or struggling"
I agree!
We have the animal gestapo in our community. It has been here for years. Untrained "animal lovers" that have never had livestock but think they know all about them. The problem is that they think the humane society badge gives them the right to run all over people's property to check on animals. Many times when the owners aren't at home. Actually at least here if they feel an animal is in danger they can go onto a persons property to check the animals.
A neighbor moved across the street from his original house. Someone reported that he moved and abandomed his horses in their pasture.

The "agents" went to investigate the somewhat chubby mare. They decided they needed to examine her and chased her all over the pasture for over an hour. The pasture area was hilly and while chasing her she slipped and fell breaking her leg and had to be put down. These so called agents aren't vets what makes them think they have to hands on examine a horse?
They went to a friend's farm because someone reported dead horses on her property. The horses were sleeping and sunning themselves. While they were there they asked if they could see her horses in her barn. She made the mistake of letting them because she felt she had nothing to hide. Big mistake. They looked at her blind pony and demanded he be taken to the vet because his eyes looked funny. They pony had been blind for over 10 years. She had one underweight auction horse that had been gaining weight nicely since she brought it home. The humane people decided they needed to come back weekly to check on that horse. They drove her crazy for months because her horses were sleeping in the pasture. Once they get onto your property they just won't leave you alone. She was never charged with anything.
I could go on and on...it is crazy here. This community takes care of it's own but people are afraid to ask for help if they run into a situation where they can't feed their animals due to the way the humane society is. When people do bring underweight animals to there farms they are afraid to put them on pasture for fear that the humane society will show up at their place. When good pasture is what the animal needs.
They also don't practive biosecurity. They come onto people's property with who knows what on their shoes. There building is shut down I don't know how many times a year due to parvo outbreak yet they go from the building and walk on people's properties to check dogs. Several people have claimed their dogs ended up with parvo after being investigated by them.
They better have a warrant if they ever show up at my place.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Read the story of Catladies society( now Westside cats). A cat shelter for old, disabled and hard to place cats in Youngstown Ohio. Just as they were about to open a new 3x larger shelter they were raided, almost all their cats stolen. 60+ were killed just for being old, disabled or having a cold which just went through the shelter, nothing that couldnt be cured. They stuffed several cats into one carrier and took them away in a open pick up truck. We think the other animal group with " authority" got jealous because the CLS just had gotten a huge donation.

I agree 100% these people are nuts with some badge of do-gooding that trample your rights. We have an animal hospital in Portland called Dove Lewis that is funded by the HSUS and others that has an agent that drives around with a sign on her car that says "enforcement" below it's name with a computer like a cop car in the console. They were parked at a local feed store doing who knows while watching people buy feed. That is a bit scary.

Oregon not allow them to throw them off there property? I think most states have laws about profiling an stalking businesses for there customers. Sort like why cops cant sit in a bar parking lot to catch DUIs cause it kills business.

This was a rural area and they were sitting across the road but still on the right of way but across from the business. And yes they are not supposed to do this but they feel they can. We have a big problem here with horses, people dumping them and people get turned in all the time by someone driving by seeing a skinny horse and assume the worst. The sheriff responds, takes the horses but has no place to board them so they go to these animal rescue places and seek refuge and then a loose bond is formed and the animal resue places take the ball and run so to speak. Funny thing is most of the places they confiscate horses get them back in a few months. I really think the sheriff wants no part of that mess, they do not budget for horse care.

Interesting to see these tactics aren't exclusive to this area. An elderly woman that I know personally broke her arm. On top of that she was caring for her 90+ year old disabled husband. She had some cockatiels that she had bred and sold for years. I think she had 7 cages total.
The Humane society showed up and pushed past her to go into her house. The bird cages were dirty. She knew this but with only one arm to use she was unable to clean them. They weren't horrible either though. All birds had enough cage space, had fresh water and feed in the cages. They confiscated her birds, cages and all. Then saw her elderly poodle. The dog had lost his bottom jaw to cancer years earlier. The woman hand fed him and his weight was good. They took him as well stating he was in pain? They put her old dog down without a vet exam. They smeared her name all over her small community newspaper. The woman attempted suicide due to the embarrassment of the whole mess.
After she was released from the hospital she got a lawyer and went to court and got her birds back but not some of the cages..they seem to have disappeared. The judge was pretty disgusted about the handling of the whole matter. They did put a small retraction that appeared near the back of the newspaper. Not on the front page with her picture like the untrue
story though.
I know of many more. Like the horses that starved to daeth while the humane society observed the farm from the neighbors property for over a year. The owner was a known gun owning person and they were too intimidated to do the job they are there for. But, if it is elderly people or people not at home they are real bigshots.
I have been intouch with my representative over the gestapo tactics and suggest that if you have the same problem in your communities that you do the same. It's insane that they have more rights than the police do with no training. All they have to claim is an animal in distress in some states.

It is beyond my comprehension that they can take animals whenever they want because you expect outdoor animals to live outside, want your chickens to lay eggs, or because an animal does a natural thing such as eat or poop. You can love your animals very much and still have basic expectations and boundaries from them, such as a horse living outside. As much as we may love them, animals are not humans and we cannot treat them like ones; it will probably result in stressing them out beyond belief. Going after good pet owners who care for their animals and not after the real animal abusers who try to hurt the animals or leave the poor things to rot is simply cowardice.
