bagging up the leftovers when eating out to take back home for the chickens. My father thought it was the funniest thing the other night when we ate a late supper at the huddle house and I asked for a to-go box and packed up what everyone had left on their plates for my flock! I told him it was going to be thrown in the trash so why not take it back to my chickens he just laughed even harder at me!!

Ive never gotten laughed at for anything like that

But my family has always taken our food home as left overs and the chickens get a lot of scraps. Even the dog always got saved a piece of food ever time we went to a resturant. Scraps definately save on chicken feed

I swear my girls know when we've gone out to eat. I do the same thing with all the leftovers, and it is so funny to watch the feeding frenzy that occurs. They know what that white box means.

I wish my kids WOULD think of things like that! I'd be PROUD I raised a frugal child! I'd never laugh....dad just must not "get it."

My family is "amused" by me but I get the sense its an affectionate "amused" rather than laughing AT me, so I don't care. They certainly don't object when I bring them a carton of eggs so they're happy to oblige my other idiosyncracies

Oh I do this all the time, my aunt used to do it for her dogs so my family is pretty used to it! I just hate to see food go to waste when you know our animals would just LOVE IT!!!

oooh, great idea! I don't eat out much right now, but I can ask for "doggie" bag, even though its going to the chickens.

We ALWAYS scrape any leftovers from eating out into a carry-out tray. The restaurants we frequent are use to it, they know its for my chickens, and I think they find it amusing.

Now--the guy at Tractor Supply thought I was off my rocker when I asked if they sold any chicken toys...

frankly, i don't like to leave anything behind. i paid for it, i'll make use of it. there's a pecking order though....
first is us, next come the dogs, then the chickens and rabbits and finally the compost pile.

my husband and kids have ceased to be embarrassed by anything i do, because frankly, you just never know lol

DH came in the house earlier this week shaking his head saying 'only at our house'. I asked him what he was talking about since i didnt think I had done anything too unusual that day.

He looks at me and says 'I was walking up from the barn and looked toward the kitchen window when something caught my eye. It took me a minute to realize that someone was throwing bread out the window to the chickens.

Whoops. That'd be me...
