Does anyone have a recipe for a homemade batch of Damp Check? It's a moisture absorber that you put in damp areas and it sucks the water out of the air. You empty the water out of the bottom of the container every now and then. We used to have these in our crawl space and they have stopped working. I can't find them for sale anywhere in my area and was wondering if anyone knew what the ingredients were, or how to make one.

Thanks!

I did some creative googling for "homemade moisture absorber" and came up with this

"the crystals that come in these wee kits are often nothing more than calcium chloride...which is a common salt often used on the roads to prevent slipping."

and

If you have the time you can also make your own homemade Damp Rid. Damp Rid is made of calcium chloride so you can buy this at your local pool supply store. Saving some money anywhere you can makes a big difference. All you have to do is buy the chips It is still a good idea to buy the Damp Rid container, since the water gets trapped in the bottom. This way you can just refill the container with the calcium chloride chips.

But I guess that's not much of a recipe is it?

Thanks! That does help! I've got the old containers so I guess I'll just try to find the calcium chloride and give it a try.

Tells us about the results when you come back from the "absorption".
