Does anyone have alpacas?

I am interested in alpacas. Does anyone have them? My husband and I are in teh very beginning stages of investigating getting and keeping them.

We don't have them but my mother is an accountant for an alpaca farm. She may be able to give some advice on the financial side.

I don't have any, but my office-mate just acquired two moms with babies. I know it took her a long time to get ready for them. Biosecurity is a big thing, because I guess they aren't good at defending themselves at all.
It also seems like it is worth investing on a good animal from the start, as that can have a huge difference on the amount of money you can sell the fiber for. (That's the other thing I learned - you call it "fiber", not hair or fur

)
