for a rescue, go with a group that does fostering. You can adopt a dog that has been living in a home with children. I mean, you could adopt a puppy that grows up to detest children. What do you do then? With a rescue, at least you know going in if the dog has a history of being used to children.
For that matter, it is feasible that a particular dog could love every child on Earth but yours... Again, all are individuals. If you are looking for a particular breed, a breed specific rescue is a good option.
